Traditions

It is/has been a weekend of traditions here.

#1: I made Grandma Muriel's Swedish Flatbread recipe by myself yesterday for the first time.  I've done it before, but only under Grandma's watchful eye.  Yesterday I was on my own.  It went well......most of the flatbread I rolled out ended up a little too thick, probably, but oh well....it still tastes good and looks good.  So, I hope Grandma's proud...I can now make her flatbread by myself.  I just hope she's not too disappointed that I didn't get it as thin as her. :)
Luckily, I was able to plan my day out yesterday so that I was able to make the flatbread during naptime so that I didn't have extra help.  My sweet kids are helpful, you know, but sometimes I enjoy the time to really get something done well on my own.

#2:  It's a Lutefisk Dinner at our church today.  I just joined this church a year or two ago, so this is only my second time helping serve it.  I like it.  I like helping, seeing people, and being busy.  Nikki and I are working in the bread room....we fill baskets full of flat bread, lefse and dark bread for the tables and then watch and make sure the baskets stay filled throughout the afternoon.  Our church is big on serving these big "Scandinavian" meals.  We serve the Lutefisk dinner every fall and every June, there's a midsummer festival in town where people decorate a maypole and then come to our church for smorgaasbord.  Fun, Fun, Fun.  So, I'm helping keep the lutefisk tradition alive in the church today.  (It will be stinky, though.)

#3: It's Halloween tomorrow.  Halloween isn't really a huge anything for me.  I don't like all the ghosts, vampires, etc.  I just enjoy dressing the kids up and going out visiting.  My kids are going to be horses tomorrow.  They have the same costume. I'm thinking, though, that I'm going to jazz Adina's costume up a little tonight so that people can tell she's a girl. :)  A beautiful, graceful mare.  She'll like that.  I got her some barettes the other day in Grand Forks....maybe I'll be able to work those in somewhere.  I got the barettes so that by the time she actually has enough hair to work with, she'll like wearing them in her hair and we can just play hair all day long.  She's such a funny girl.  Anyway, back to Halloween....we just dress up and head out to see all the relatives....they love seeing the kids all dressed up.  And, I promised Clarence we'd stop by the city hall in Lancaster so he could have a hotdog and pop.  So, that's all he's been talking about.  At least he's easy to please.

Well, I need to go get the kids ready for church....that is, I need to get Clarence dressed.  Adina, on the other hand, I need to wake up, feed, and then get dressed.  She's sleeping in today; we had a late night last night at our neighbors' house visiting and letting the kids play.  They had so much fun!  There were about 11 kids there;  they played hard all evening.

Have a super Sunday!
